Uptown United - Placemaking

Lunar New Year is a time for fresh starts—it’s about sweeping away the bad luck of the previous year to make room for the good luck of the new year. For decades, Uptown has celebrated the start of the Lunar Year with parades, programming, food, and art. To adapt 2020’s festivities in the time of COVID, we worked with Uptown United to celebrate by decking out Argyle Street with red lanterns. It’s safe to say that there was lots of love for these red beauties. And we get why.

The best part? This temporary installation turned into a solar-powered permanent one after the community championed for its return.
